Infection Control Department
The Infection Control Department is unique in its kind in the Republic of Belarus. It unites in its staff infectious disease doctors, an epidemiologist, a clinical pharmacologist, bacteriologists, a nurse registrar and an assistant epidemiologist.
Main areas of activity:
- a set of sanitary, hygienic and anti-epidemic measures aimed at preventing infectious complications;
- continuous microbiological monitoring (screening of certain categories of patients) with determination of antimicrobial sensitivity of isolated microorganisms;
- antimicrobial management, including the development of up-to-date algorithms for prevention, diagnosis, empirical and targeted antimicrobial therapy of infectious complications and their continuous updating based on operational analysis (1-2 times per six months) of the situation with the microbial landscape and resistance of microorganisms;
- operational accounting of consumption of antimicrobial drugs in hospitals and departments for subsequent analysis and use of these data for correction and optimization of antimicrobial management; advisory activities in clinical departments in relation to patients with infectious complications;
- educational and training activities (training of hospital medical personnel, advanced training of specialists from other institutions), participation in scientific research related to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious complications.
